Bill Allowing Sex Offenders Near Schools and Playgrounds Puts Communities at Risk
I want to take a moment to talk to you about a bill being pushed in Springfield that I believe is deeply misguided. Senate Bill 2254 would allow convicted sex offenders to live closer to schools, playground, and childcare facilities.
It would normalize the sex trade, give predators more cover, and make it harder for law enforcement to go after traffickers. That puts vulnerable women and children at even greater risk. This proposal could also make our communities less safe, especially as traffickers tied to illegal immigration take advantage of weakened laws to expand their networks.
I support legislation that would fight human trafficking and protect victims – because that’s where our focus should be. We need real solutions that rescue people from exploitation, not laws that make it easier for traffickers to operate in plain sight.
